I Cracked the Storm

In my transition from Verizon to T-Mobile, while waiting for the iPhone4 on At&T, I have a mixed bag of old phones. Well, I grabbed the trusty Blackberry 8800 and off I went for almost 6 months. It got tired and decided to take a break, so… since I will not be buying an iPhone4 (obvious reasons exploited by the media) and I will not be moving to AT&T (more obvious connection issues and customer service), I decided to get a Droid X from Verizon.

Wait! The story isnt over. I wanted to wait a few weeks to figure out some communication challenges with my Girlfriend going abroad a lot. I grabbed the old Storm from Verizon and wondered if I could hack it to run T-Mobile for the remainder of my days with New Voicesteam (blast from the past).

Let’s make it clear, I didnt hack it. I followed directions on the interweb and got it to work. I am happy to play with a touch screen device again (TWSS) and eagerly anticipating my jump into Android land with all y’all geeks.

What if Facebook Went Away?

We all rely on certain websites and technologies to get through our daily lives. Some vital, some not so vital and some irreplaceable. What would happen if Facebook just went away? I mean, it happens all the time, websites we grow fond of disappear sometimes right?

If Google went away, you would just find Bing or Yahoo or MSN. If Orbitz went away, we still have Travelocity and Kayak. But, what about Facebook? MySpace isnt an option anymore. Where would we turn?

To some it is a business tool, but to most it is purely personal activity that has slowly consumed our waking hours. Bringing old friend together, families closer and parents farther apart from their kids - if you friend-ed them. haha. So, what would you do?

At airport waiting…

People watching is a fun past time. Have you ever gone to a place just to watch the people? Well, I am in the Houston International Airport, it is late and waiting to pick up my girlfriend. What else am I suppose to do, I mean Starbucks is closed.

Mostly, security and employees walking around, the occasional traveler and me sitting on a bench typing into my phone like a crazied person.

Oh’well, I wanted to try out the Tumblr app for my Blackberry anyway. I will update you if anything excited happens.

My Social World

Social Distraction

Welcome to my Tumblr. I have been in Marketing and Sales for more than 15 years, through College jobs and my Professional Career. I will complete my Masters in Internet Marketing this December. I have watched the rise of the Internet and Social Media. But, what does it all mean? And how in the heck does it all affect my life or better yet, improve it.

Here is how I use Social Media in my life.

Facebook. I strictly use this for my personal life. I do not ‘friend’ anyone that I do not know or don’t want to get to know. I read people’s status updates to see what others are up to in their daily lives. I communicate with probably only 10 people regularly out of the 225 friends.

Twitter. Ugh. Twitter. I have yet to figure this little birdie out from a personal standpoint. I tried it. I left it. I came back to it. I rarely use it.

MySpace. Well, you know.

LinkedIn. I use this everyday. I have over 3,400 connections, most i dont know. I use LinkedIn for networking and job hunting, as needed. I am not a huge fan of the interface and features but I think it is an amazing network to find business people and make connections for projects, etc.

Tumblr. I have tried to start a blog for several years and failed each time. Mostly, due to time and effort. I am going to jump in feet first and see what happens this time around. I am just exploring all the features and will post back my thoughts soon.

LiveJournal. I have a specific thought in mind for this. More to come.

Ning. Started building a Ning site for a business idea i was thinking through but, after they trashed the free model, I had to let go. Bye Ning.

Social Overload! When do we start to pick up the phone and just talk again?

What other networks have you tried? Use? Like? Dislike?
